About

(Click here for information about EcoVillageGreen’s purpose and philosophy.)

me1My name is Joe Barrios, and I’m the owner and Editor-In-Chief of EcoVillageGreen. I have long been passionate about the need to change the way we do things so as to live in a more sustainable way.

I recently lived in Arlington, Virginia. While there I served as a politically appointed commissioner on the County’s Environment and Energy Conservation Commission, advising the County Board and working with local agencies on environmental and energy conservation policy. I also served on the Board of Directors of Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE), a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental advocacy, education and cleanup. (The opinions on this site are solely my own and don’t represent those of any entity for whom I work or volunteer.)

My life has taken many twists and turns in getting to where I am now. I graduated from college with a double major in psychology and philosophy. My experiences as an activist and student leader on campus cemented my belief that one individual can make a difference. Later on I picked up a law degree and practiced law for a few years. I subsequently changed paths and  pursued a career in software engineering and design, which is still what I do today for a day job.

I’m an avid reader and love to soak up knowledge like a sponge. A few years back I became increasingly aware of the many environmental problems facing our planet, and of the need for individuals to make eco-sustainable choices instead of just waiting for government action. Since then I have increasingly directed my efforts in that direction, and this website is the latest product of that.
