Forty Go Green Quotes For When You’re At A Loss For Words

by Nicola Temple on October 6, 2011

Last night I was at a loss for words. I needed a very powerful go green quote and nothing came to mind; ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ simply wasn’t going to cut it.  I’ve now scanned the internet and I have compiled some of my favourite go green quotes below, but first let me tell you why I needed it.

My family and I went to the park after dinner last night to kick a ball around and enjoy the last hours of a beautiful sunny day. Three young women in their early 20s were sitting not far from us with a baby and a rather large dog.

Just as we were leaving, we noticed that the women were leaving also and had left behind a pile of litter; a plastic bag, a soda can, a jar of baby food with a non-disposable spoon and some other odds and sods. We picked it up and my husband chased after them.

“Excuse me,” he kindly says, “I think you may have left this behind.”

One woman replies, “It’s not ours.”

Still being on his best behaviour, my husband says “Well, actually, I think it is. I watched you leave it.”

The women refused to take the garbage so my husband placed it on the top of the stroller and walked away. The woman responded by hurling the baby food jar at my husband’s head.

My son and I watched this scene dumbfounded. There were a number of things I wanted to say, none of which were appropriate in front of my four year old son, but what I really wanted was some thought provoking quote. I had nothing.

So, with an evening of ball kicking, active environmentalism and attempted assault behind me, here are some of my favourite go green quotes that I have come across. Please enjoy!

I have to admit I felt angry at last night’s incident; the absolute apathy of these young women toward their environment and the fact that the baby food jar ended up smashed on the street in the end anyway. However, these go green quotes inspire me to continue to take action (though my husband and I might start wearing helmets).  You’ve likely seen this video, but whenever I feel a little hopeless, I’m reminded of this poem, written by Jonathan Reed from Georgia State University (also in his early twenties at the time by the way). It won 2nd place in 2007 in the U@50 video contest launched by the American Association of Retired Persons.
