When laying or cutting the VAST Pavers, we too noticed a smell. It reminded me of visiting the tire store. However, the smell went away in our application in just a couple of days.

Hi Souzann, are the pavers you used made by VAST? Here's what VAST had to say about odor with regards to their pavers, on their FAQ:

Does VAST have an odor?

Some customers have reported a slight rubber smell that usually disappears after a few weeks. VAST has no harmful toxins or air pollutants of any kind.

If your pavers are from VAST and the odor hasn't disappeared soon I would contact them directly and ask them what the deal is.

We have purchased 56 recycled rubber pavers for a patio in our backyard. We love the ease with which we could lay them, and love the fact that they are great to walk on and the rain goes right through them. However, they have been layed down now for 2 weeks and there is such tremendous 'off-gassing' that we cannot be anywhere is the vacinity of these pavers....nor can we have any windows open on that side of the house. We are concerned about health issues to do with the lungs and anything else we may not be aware of. What can you tell us about the off-gassing of these rubber pavers? We don't want to have to return them, but if we cannot sit in our yard....we may have to. S. McMillan
